October 22, 2025

Students and staff at Fred C. Cook PS in Bradford were recently recognized for their work related to their understanding of water issues and commitment to water stewardship by Canadian non-profit Learning for a Sustainable Future.

During the 2024-25 school year, students at the school engaged in learning through the Water Docs at School Action Projects Program. This program engages Grade 7 and 8 students from classes across Manitoba, New Brunswick, and Ontario in highlighting and addressing water issues through film. The school's film Stormwater Runoff: The Hidden Water Crisis' was recognized as Best Project, while their film Fountains: The Taste That Can't Be Ignored' was the runner-up in the Best Film category.

In early October, the school was also recognized for their work by the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority with their Healthy Community Award. This award celebrates those who have completed a project that increases community connections and engagement. The school was recognized for their focus on restorative ecology, engaging students in all grades in various ways.

This initiative links directly to the SCDSB Strategic Priorities in the areas of Community and Excellence in Teaching and Learning.
