The Northern Lights Public Schools (NLPS) Board of Trustees proudly presented Dani Moore from Cold Lake First Nations (CLFN) with a 2025 Friends of Education Award at its meeting earlier today (Oct 29) in recognition of her outstanding contributions to students, staff, and school communities in Cold Lake

"Dani's work exemplifies the spirit of partnership and reconciliation," said NLPS Board Chair Karen Packard. "She has created meaningful learning experiences that connect students with local Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and cultural traditions. Her compassion, integrity, and dedication have made a lasting impact on our schools and communities."
Moore is the Indigenous School Liaison for Cold Lake First Nations, and works closely with the division's schools in Cold Lake. Through her leadership and collaboration, she has played a vital role in strengthening relationships between schools and CLFN, and in creating authentic opportunities for students and staff to learn from and engage with Indigenous culture.
Through Dani's efforts, students have participated in fish camps, cultural workshops, and storytelling events that deepen understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing and being. She has also supported teachers in delivering Indigenous content with confidence and cultural respect, and has helped schools host professional learning sessions with Elders and Knowledge Keepers to strengthen staff understanding and awareness. She has also been a tireless advocate for Cold Lake First Nations students, ensuring they feel supported, heard, and valued in their school environments.
"Dani has truly built bridges between Cold Lake First Nations and our schools," said Packard. "Her work has made our learning environments more inclusive, respectful and connected. The relationships she has fostered will continue to benefit our students, staff and communities for years to come."
Dani Moore from Cold Lake First Nations is one of two recipients of a 2025 Friends of Education Award. Information about all current and past recipients is available on the NLPS website.
