District School Board Ontario North East (DSB1) held its annual Organizational Meeting on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, to elect the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Board for the upcoming year.
Dr. Jonathan Byer was acclaimed as Chair of the Board, and Crystal Hewey was acclaimed as Vice- Chair.
Chair Byer previously served as Vice-Chair following the 2024 Organizational Meeting and assumed the role of Chair in September 2025 to fill a vacancy. Vice-Chair Hewey has also served in her role since September 2025.
"I am grateful for the trust placed in me to continue serving as Chair. I look forward to working with Vice-Chair Hewey and my fellow Trustees to strengthen governance, deepen community engagement, and keep student achievement and well-being at the centre of every decision we make," said Chair Byer.
"I am honoured to accept this opportunity and thank the Board of Trustees for their confidence in me. I look forward to continuing to collaborate closely with Chair Byer and all Trustees," added Vice-Chair Hewey.
The Chair and Vice-Chair serve a one-year term and are elected each November during the annual Organizational Meeting.
