AVON MAITLAND DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
AMDSB Shows Improvement Across All Areas of EQAO

December 4, 2025

Recently the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) released the results of the Grades 3 and 6 assessments of reading, writing and mathematics as well as the Grade 9 mathematics assessment and Grade 10 Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). Results for students in the Avon Maitland District School Board (AMDSB) showed improvement across all eight of the measures, some increasing as much as 11% over the previous year.

Literacy and numeracy are important because they are fundamental for lifelong learning, personal development, and active participation in society.

Director of Education Graham Shantz said: "We are pleased with the 2024/2025 school year EQAO results as they validate the efforts that our staff make every day in our classrooms."

It is important to note that these results are just one of many assessment tools that schools and boards use to measure and support student achievement. In addition, this data represents a snapshot of time, and it is most useful when examined as long-term trends.

"These results confirm our commitment to providing professional development opportunities for our staff and utilizing in-classroom supports from our board-level teams. We will continue in this direction as we aim to continually improve the literacy and numeracy support we provide to our students." continued Director Shantz.

Next steps include a review of school-level information with our administrators so that they can incorporate the findings into their School Learning Plans. This, in the end, enables us to support each student, meet them where they are, and develop strategies to enable their success.

A summary of the overall board-level results can be found here.
