PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND
Provincial funding strengthens diversity and inclusion efforts

March 2, 2026

Thirty-two local community organizations are receiving funding to support diversity and inclusion projects across the province.

This year, Women's Network PEI is one of the organizations receiving funding through the Gender, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (GEDI) and Community Engagement Program to enhance inclusion and community connection in PEI.

Since the program launched in 2022, a total of $2.4 million has been distributed to over 56 local organizations for 82 projects. This continued investment demonstrates the province's commitment to equity and inclusion efforts.

Through the bilateral agreement between the Governments of Canada and Prince Edward Island to support the National Action Plan to End Gender Based Violence, the Interministerial Women's Secretariat contributed $150,000 toward the annual $600,000 fund advancing gender-based violence prevention efforts.

By offering self-defence training in culturally safe and gender-affirming spaces, we are centring communities who are often excluded from these opportunities and helping participants feel more confident."

Rachael Crowder, interim executive director Women's Network PEI

"The province grows stronger when all voices are heard and valued. The GEDI program continues to play an important role in supporting inclusion and community leadership, with more than thirty organizations advancing equity and fostering stronger community connections across the Island."

The Honourable Zack Bell, Minister of Workforce and Advanced Learning

"We are committed to supporting community-led initiatives that strengthen inclusion and belonging across the province. This funding also supports programs that empower women and gender-diverse Islanders, fostering greater safety, connection and opportunity in our communities."

The Honourable Barb Ramsay, Minister of Social Development and Seniors and Minister responsible for the Status of Women

"Preventing gender-based violence starts with strong, inclusive communities. Through the National Action Plan to End Gender-based Violence, the federal government is advancing equity and inclusion, building safer communities, and contributing to a stronger economy across the country. In Prince Edward Island, this funding is strengthening the capacity of community organizations to deliver prevention-focused, community-led initiatives."

The Honourable Rechie Valdez, Minister of Women and Gender Equality and Secretary of State (Small Business and Tourism)
