MANITOBA
New French School in St. Boniface to Open This Fall

March 4, 2026

The Manitoba government and the Division scolaire franco-manitobaine (DSFM) will open a new middle years school in the St. Boniface neighbourhood this fall, Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister Tracy Schmidt announced on March 2nd.

"Families across Manitoba are choosing French-language education in record numbers and we want to make sure there is a seat for every child who wants one," said Schmidt. "This investment is about more than classrooms, it is about ensuring Manitoba's francophone heritage continues to thrive for generations to come."

The school, located at 261 Youville St., previously operated as Springs Christian Academy, an independent school. The facility will have an opening capacity for approximately 375 students, with classes scheduled to begin on Sept. 11.

"This purchase is a concrete way for us to support the growth of our school community," said Bernard Lesage, president, Commission scolaire franco-manitobaine. "With this new space, we are strengthening our presence in St. Boniface and enhancing our ability to better serve francophone families."

"Our government is continuing to make significant investments in new schools to ensure students have access to safe, modern and inspiring learning environments," Schmidt. "This new school will help French students learn, grow and find a strong sense of belonging for years to come. We thank DSFM for its continued partnership and advocacy in advancing our shared goal of creating une province véritablement bilingue."

The new school joins four other schools currently planned to start construction, which will be built as a bundle using a standardized design, with construction expected to begin this year.
