REGIONAL DISTRICT OF KOOTENAY BOUNDARY
Christina Lake Bridge Opens, Connecting Community

April 28, 2026

Community members gathered in large numbers to celebrate the new pedestrian bridge in Christina Lake, marking the completion of a long-anticipated project rooted in local vision and collaboration.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony, led by Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) Area C Director and Board Chair Grace McGregor, brought together residents, students from Christina Lake Elementary School, RDKB staff, Area Directors, and representatives from partner organizations who contributed to bringing the project to life.

"This project shows what's possible when a community comes together," said Director McGregor. "It took a community and while it's been a long time coming, it's incredibly rewarding to see this vision now realized."

Bridging Christina Lake Together

The idea for a pedestrian bridge spanning the creek was first championed many years ago by late Christina Lake resident John Pratt, whose vision helped inspire the project. His contribution was acknowledged during the ceremony, with his wife, Diane Pratt, in attendance to see that vision come to life.

The bridge is already being embraced by residents of all ages. Local author Dani Collins shared her enthusiasm, saying, "I've been walking on it almost every day. I can't stay off it. I love it!"

Students from Christina Lake Elementary School also attended the event, with Grade 7 student Blake Adrain speaking on behalf of his peers. "We're excited about this bridge for walking from school or with our friends. We're looking forward to getting a lot of use out of this bridge in years to come," he said.

Messages left in the guest book reflected the community's appreciation, with comments such as "Thanks for the bridge," "Wonderful! Much needed," and "Thank you for building this bridge and taking care of this town."

The celebration concluded with a commemorative cake, marking not just the opening of a new structure, but the strengthening of community connections.

The new pedestrian bridge enhances accessibility and safety for residents and visitors, while standing as a testament to the power of community vision, persistence, and partnership.
