The Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board (HPCDSB) is thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students at this year's Skills Ontario Competition that took place at the Toronto Congress Centre. Competing against the top talent from across the province, our elementary and secondary students demonstrated exceptional technical skill, teamwork, and innovation, solidifying HPCDSB's reputation as a provincial leader in STEM and skilled trades education.
Our students reached the podium in several highly competitive categories:
- Gold Medal (Aesthetics): A student from St. Michael Catholic Secondary School, Stratford, earned the gold medal in Aesthetics. This win highlights the diverse range of technical skills nurtured within our secondary schools and the professional excellence of our students.
- Gold Medal (Construction): The student team from Sacred Heart, Wingham, took home the top prize in Construction, showcasing precision and craftsmanship in their model-house build.
- Bronze Medal (Mechanical Engineering): The team from St. Joseph's, Clinton, earned bronze for their innovative approach to the engineering challenge to build a crane.
- Bronze Medal (Landscaping): In a historic win, St. Joseph's, Clinton, also secured bronze in the newly introduced Landscaping division. This was the inaugural year that Landscaping was offered as an option for the elementary age group.
These successes are a direct result of the Board's commitment to providing hands-on learning opportunities that prepare students for the 21st-century workforce. By engaging in these provincial challenges, students refine their problem-solving abilities and gain practical insights into career paths in engineering, technology, and the skilled trades.
The HPCDSB continues to prioritize STEM through strategic investments in technology and community partnerships. As part of our multi-year strategic plan, we remain dedicated to hosting district-wide competitions that serve as a springboard for our students to compete, and win, at the provincial level.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the teachers, families, and community supporters who have contributed to the success of these talented young professionals.
