The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board's (KPDSB) new school under construction in Savant Lake was recently visited by current students on May 6th, all of whom were eager to view the school they will soon attend. The new school will replace KPDSB's Savant Lake Public School, and is being built on the existing school grounds. Funding for this project was announced in late 2020 as part of the Ministry of Education's and Ontario Government's investment in the Capital Priorities program.

In addition to students, the building was visited by a number of KPDSB staff, including the school's principal, vice principal, teachers, and superintendents, who were excited to view the progress being made. The new school is anticipated to open in late 2026.
Completion of the replacement school building will introduce more innovative educational spaces designed for multipurpose use. In addition to energy-efficient facilities design, the new building will host a redesigned school playground to expand outdoor learning opportunities. Staff and students will be able to learn, work, and grow in an updated building that best supports KPDSB's goal of fostering student achievement in a modern, inclusive, and engaging environment. Moreover, the new school building will be a beneficial addition to the Savant Lake community.
The Ontario Government's Capital Priorities program aims to fund the construction of modern schools with additional childcare spaces, providing safe and accessible learning opportunities for students. Since 2018, the Capital Priorities Program has supported the construction of 209 new schools and over 11 000 new childcare spaces in schools across Ontario.
