WATERLOO REGION DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
Walking in Two Worlds: Indigenous Youth Symposium

June 26, 2026

The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB), in partnership with The Healing of the Seven Generations, recently hosted the Walking in Two Worlds Youth Conference, a meaningful opportunity for Indigenous students and allies to connect with culture, community and identity alongside various local First Nation, Métis, and Inuit community members.

Students from across the WRDSB gathered for a full-day symposium rooted in First Nation, Métis, and Inuit ways of knowing and being. The day featured a keynote speaker, hands-on workshops, and shared meals.

Learning experiences included Inuit drum dancing and teachings on traditional foods; creating crafts, such as friendship bracelets and bone necklaces; and exploring the significance of sacred medicines, bundles, and fires. Other sessions focused on storytelling, creativity, and self-expression.

The event created opportunities for students to honour their identities and strengthen their sense of belonging. A key aspect of the conference was its focus on building community. Students were able to attend alongside invited allies, supporting shared learning and understanding.
