The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) held a groundbreaking ceremony on September 14 at the future location of the new Breslau-Hopewell Crossing Elementary School, at 95 Loxleigh Lane in Breslau, Township of Woolwich.

WRDSB was joined by Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Education and MPP for Kitchener South Hespeler, Jess Dixon, Woolwich Township Mayor, Sandy Shantz, Regional Chair of the Waterloo Region, Karen Redman, representatives from the Region of Waterloo, Township of Woolwich, YMCA and community partners as we look forward to the new school serving WRDSB students, parents, families, caregivers and communities.
"Our government is focused on supporting students, teachers and parents while ensuring school boards are equipping our students with the tools they need to succeed," said Paul Calandra, Minister of Education. "Once completed, this project will offer an inspiring learning environment that helps students prepare for rewarding, in-demand careers."
"Breaking ground on a new school is always an exciting moment because we know what it represents for the community. It is the beginning of a place where students will make friends, discover their strengths and create memories that stay with them for years to come," said Maedith Radlein, Chair of the WRDSB Board of Trustees. "This investment will provide much needed spaces for students and families while creating a school that reflects the needs and aspirations of this growing community."
The Ontario government has approved a total investment of $32.5 million to support the construction of the new Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 school.
"We are excited to celebrate this important milestone with the Breslau community," said Scott Miller, WRDSB Chief Executive Officer. "This investment will create a modern, inclusive learning environment where students can learn, grow and build connections. We are grateful for the continued investment and partnership that will help this growing community thrive for generations to come."
The new school is built in response to the continued growth of the Breslau-Hopewell Crossing community and will provide essential elementary school and child care spaces for local families.
