Education Funding Down $1,483 Per Student

According to government data, Saskatchewan's per-student education funding was $1,483 lower in 2025-26 than it was a decade ago. This decline is the focus of the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation's new ad campaign, which launches this week.

"Teachers, students and parents experience the impact of these cuts every day," says Samantha Becotte, president of the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation. "Less funding per student means fewer resources and supports to help students succeed. Helping students achieve takes adequate funding."

The campaign includes television, social media and out-of-home advertising. A campaign website features an online tool that shows the estimated impact on each school division. The estimate is based on the provincial average reduction of $1,483 in per-student funding over the ten-year period, multiplied by division enrolment data.

"Due to gains made through the last round of bargaining, some progress has been made," Becotte says. "While every step forward counts, we want families to know there is still work to be done. Properly funding public education today means a strong Saskatchewan in the future."
