Alberta's government has broken ground on a new shared francophone school facility in Edmonton that will house two distinct high schools: one public and one Catholic.
This $91-million investment in the new shared facility in west Edmonton will create modern, high-quality learning spaces for 1,260 students while giving each school its own distinct space and identity. The public school will be named École l'Odyssée and the Catholic school will be named École l'Envolée.
The groundbreaking marks the start of construction on a facility designed to serve Edmonton families for generations. Alberta Infrastructure is working closely with Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord, the City of Edmonton and project partners to deliver the project on time and on budget.
"Alberta is growing, and we are building the school infrastructure communities need. This investment will deliver modern, high-quality spaces and lasting value for Edmonton families while supporting jobs and fostering economic growth."
Martin Long, Minister of Infrastructure
"Our government continues to build schools at an unprecedented rate, making a historic $8.6-billion investment to build more than 100 schools and create over 200,000 student spaces across the province. This groundbreaking reflects our commitment to deliver more public schools across Alberta and ensure students have the modern learning spaces they need to succeed."
Demetrios Nicolaides, Minister of Education and Child Care
The two grade 7-12 schools will operate independently within the shared facility, with a thoughtful design that supports and respects each school's programming and identity. By co-locating the schools on one campus, students will benefit from having access to a greater variety of shared amenities. This includes a library, a larger gymnasium, and career and technology studies classrooms that will help students develop practical skills and prepare for future career pathways by providing hands-on opportunities to explore areas such as culinary arts, welding, construction and introductory medical sciences.
"The start of construction on Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord's École l'Envolée and École l'Odyssée campus marks a major milestone for Edmonton's francophone community - and a long-awaited moment for west-end families who will finally have access to an equivalent school close to home."
Tanya Saumure, board chair, Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord
Alberta's government continues to build the schools that growing communities need. Through Budget 2026, Alberta is investing $3.3 billion over three years in K-12 infrastructure, including new schools, modernizations, modulars, and capital maintenance and renewal.
