LAMBTON KENT DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
LKDSB Highlights Long-Term Student Achievement Growth in Latest EQAO Results

October 1, 2026

The Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) is highlighting long-term growth in student achievement following the release of the latest Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) results.

While annual assessment results can fluctuate from year to year, particularly within individual grades and schools, a review over the past five years of EQAO data provides a broader picture of student learning trends across the system. Since the province transitioned to online assessments in 2021-2022, LKDSB has demonstrated improvement, reflecting the ongoing efforts of students, staff, families, and school communities.

The board's analysis shows upward trends in most assessment categories over the five-year period, reinforcing that student achievement across LKDSB continues to move in a positive direction.

"We know that a single year of data represents only one snapshot in time," said LKDSB Superintendent of Education, Ben Hazzard. "When we examine results over a longer period, we see encouraging evidence that our students are making progress and that the investments our schools have made in literacy, numeracy and student success are having a positive impact."

The board also notes that student progress occurs across all achievement levels. While public attention is often focused on the percentage of students meeting or exceeding the provincial standard, growth among students working below that benchmark is equally important. Students moving from Level 1 to Level 2 are demonstrating meaningful gains in knowledge, skills and confidence, reflecting the impact of targeted supports and the dedication of both students and educators.

"Behind every percentage point are students who are learning, growing and gaining confidence," said LKDSB Chief Executive Officer, Gary Girardi. "We remain focused on ensuring every student has the support they need to succeed from Kindergarten to Graduation."

The results also highlight significant pockets of excellence throughout the system. Numerous LKDSB schools achieved results that exceeded provincial averages in one or more assessment areas, demonstrating the exceptional work taking place in classrooms across Sarnia-Lambton and Chatham-Kent. These successes provide valuable opportunities for educators to share effective practices and support continued improvement across the district.

While the board recognizes there is more work to do and remains committed to improving outcomes for every learner, the longer-term data demonstrates that student achievement is moving in the right direction. Those results are strengthened by LKDSB's high levels of student participation in EQAO assessments, which exceeded provincial averages across assessment areas. By engaging a broader and more representative group of students, the results provide greater confidence in the data and offer a more complete picture of student learning across the district.
