GVSD 61 Appoints a new Superintendent of Schools

The Greater Victoria School District is pleased to announce that Mr. Pieter Langstraat has been appointed Superintendent of Schools effective August 24, 2015. Edith Loring-Kuhanga, Board Chair said, "I am pleased that the Board of Education has selected Mr. Pieter Langstraat as Superintendent of Schools for the Greater Victoria School District. Mr. Langstraat is an experienced Superintendent with strong leadership skills, committed to public education, a true supporter of students and a strong relationship builder."

After a shortlisting and comprehensive interview process, Mr. Langstraat was selected from a pool of highly qualified educators who applied from across Canada.

Mr. Langstraat comes to Greater Victoria from the Red Deer Public School District where he has spent most of his career, and where he is currently the Superintendent of Schools. His goal is to provide exemplary leadership in a collaborative, progressive educational community that focuses on results for its students. He brings to educational leadership clear personal expectations about meeting the needs of students, parents, staff and the community. Mr. Langstraat welcomes new challenges, works diligently to achieve results and is looking forward to his career with the Greater Victoria School District.

Ms. Sherri Bell, current Superintendent of Schools, begins a new role as President of Camosun College effective July 1, 2015.
