Yellowknife Education District No.1 is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Curran as Assistant Principal of École Sir John Franklin High School beginning in August, 2017.
Originally from Charlottetown, Peter Curran moved from Pine Point to Yellowknife and attended Mildred Hall School when he was in Grade 5. He continued to go through the YK1 school system and graduated from École Sir John Franklin High School in 1994.
Curran obtained his B.Ed from the University of Calgary and returned to the North to teach at the very high school from which he graduated. Curran is currently the English Language Arts Department Head and Graduation Coordinator at the high school.
As an educator, Curran maintains high standards for all his students, yet his expectations inspire, motivate and prepare students for the real world of deadlines and expectations.
"Curran has played a vital role in the success of our students over the past 19 years. The District is confident in his abilities and wishes him the best moving forward in this new position," says Metro Huculak, YK1 Superintendent.
Curran is an active community volunteer who can often be found coaching youth hockey or picking up garbage as part of the City's Adopt-a-Street Program.
