It quickly proved itself to be a true anchor of the community. There was a great deal of excitement and pride when Whyte Ridge School first open its doors in 1992. It is hard to believe 25 years have passed since the official ribbon cutting.
"Preparing for a 25th anniversary event in a K-4 school is an interesting experience," shared principal Val Woods. "Our students are really too young to understand the significance of the 25th however the adults who I have had communication with are a very different story. I have learned so much about Whyte Ridge School from the stories told by former staff and families. It is a privilege to be the principal of a school celebrating 25 years of teaching excellence and community connection. Community members are proud to share that their children attended here and reminisce fondly about the past two and a half decades. We look forward to continuing to provide rich and memorable learning experiences for the children of Whyte Ridge."
For more than two decade, thousands of Whyte Ridge children have experienced a positive start to their academic journey. The school has moved quickly with the times; embracing technology and offering innovative programming. One thing that has remained constant is the staff's dedication to providing a supportive and successful education. There are still a few current teachers who have been at the school since it opened.
To mark this special milestone, staff, students and parent council hosted a community celebration. Former students and staff were invited to visit the school on October 19, 2017. There was an opportunity to visit and reconnect, as well as tour the school and explore new initiatives including the Makerspace, Learning Commons and outdoor classroom.
