A rock concert, cake and a ribbon cutting made for an exciting day at W.E. Kinvig Elementary as students, staff and parents celebrated a new playground at the Surrey school.
The colourful $125,000 play structure came to fruition when one parent's idea grew into a community initiative that gained momentum over the past two years.
Many donors stepped forward to make the accessible playground a reality, including the Rick Hansen Foundation, Tire Stewardship BC, OCL Industrial Materials, Spence Family Foundation, Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation, Marathon Surfaces and more.
The band Her Brothers got the crowd pumped up in the gym prior to the party being moved outside, where students joined officials for an official ribbon cutting. The afternoon concluded with cake and candy canes.
"It's a big day for Kinvig," said principal Jas Atwal
