CALGARY
4,000 Grade 5 and 6 students to attend Safety Expo hosted by The City of Calgary

March 8, 2018
On March 7 and 8, more than 4,000 Grade 5 and 6 students will attend the 15th annual Safety Expo hosted by The City of Calgary in the Municipal Building Atrium. The event gives students hands-on learning experiences with over 20 interactive exhibits from City and partner organizations, and workshops on topics including anti-bullying, bicycle safety and online safety.

"The Safety Expo is one of the most important events The City hosts because it teaches students about staying safe inside and outside of the home," said Mayor Nenshi. "I want to thank my colleagues at The City of Calgary for hosting another successful Safety Expo."

The Safety Expo remains free for students and exhibitors. This is thanks to The City's partnerships with community, not-for-profit and corporate organizations who provide both financial and in-kind contributions. Hundreds of contributors will participate in the event, including volunteers, exhibitors, and presenters.

"In the last 15 years, about 50,000 Calgary students have been able to learn valuable lessons on how to recognize safety hazards," says Councillor Diane Colley-Urquhart, Honourary Chair of the Safety Expo. "The City is pleased to be able to bring this safety education to so many students."

Safety Expo is led by Calgary Community Standards as part of The City's commitment to public safety and supports Council's vision for inspiring safe neighbourhoods with the goal of encouraging citizens to share in the responsibility for individual and community safety.
