At the March 14, 2018 public Board meeting, the Quesnel Board of Education approved five additional school closure days attached to Spring Break for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years. The Board of Education has committed to the additional week of school closure days on a trial basis and will establish a process to seek feedback from all stakeholders during the first year of implementation.
During this school year, the Board convened a two-week Spring Break Committee (consisting of members from CUPE, the Quesnel District Teachers Association, Principal/Vice-Principal Association, senior administration and a trustee representative) with the sole purpose of gathering information and feedback from district partners including parents, community agencies, service providers and staff. The committee findings demonstrated that more than 75% of those who responded to the survey were in favour of the additional week of Spring Break.Furthermore, it is expected that the District will benefit from a savings of approximately $115,000.
Over the next few months the District will determine the implementation plan of the additional week of Spring Break for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years. This plan will be widely communicated with parents and community from the school and district levels.
