The project will include a new, 13,000-sq.-ft. gym addition, and the renovation of existing gym space into four state-of-the-art classrooms and a new art room.
"A new gymnasium at Miles Macdonell Collegiate has been a board priority for several years now and will be a tremendous benefit to our students, staff and community," said Colleen Carswell, board chair of River East Transcona School Division.
This conversion will also include two large seminar rooms, a locker room, dance studio, fitness centre, and training room for the football team.
"We're thrilled to hear the new gym and additional classrooms will soon become a reality," said Mark Bruce, principal of Miles Macdonell. "This added space will help us to improve and diversify programming for all of our students and we look forward to the project's completion in early 2019."
