PWPSD honours Pembina Pipeline Corporation as ‘Friends of Education' at regional ASBA Awards luncheon

Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) honoured Pembina Pipeline Corporation for their contributions to education during the annual Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) Zone 1 Awards luncheon held in Peace River. The event provides an opportunity for all Zone 1 school divisions to acknowledge local organizations.

"For the past five years, Pembina has supported Skills Canada Alberta, an organization that promotes excellence in trades and technology skills competitions, and hands-on training for students," said PWPSD Board Chair Dana McIntosh during the award presentation.

Several years ago, Pembina launched their signature community investment program, Fuel 4 Thought, in partnership with Breakfast Club of Canada. Ms. McIntosh noted that through this program, Pembina has invested more than a million dollars in support of nutritious breakfast programs in high-needs schools.

Beaverlodge Elementary School received funding from Pembina to stock their "Snack Shack" - a refrigerator filled with grab-and-go healthy snacks for students. The company also provided support for Wembley Elementary School's breakfast program. Recognizing the time commitment required to run a school breakfast program, Pembina employees also volunteer to serve food at both schools. 

In June, Pembina presented a $10,000 cheque to support the Cree Language Program at Hythe Regional School.

The company also supports PWPSD staff in their ongoing professional development to better serve First Nation, Métis and Inuit students and all students within safe and caring inclusive learning environments. Last year, the funds were used in cooperation with the Werklund School of Education and the Gailileo Educational Network to implement distinct learning support plans in PWPSD schools, build staff workshops, and create collaborative learning opportunities and communities of practice.

In closing, Ms. McIntosh presented a framed certificate to Leanne Chartrand, Community Affairs Advisor, and Brad Beaupre, Manager of the Deep Basin District.

"We are grateful to Pembina Pipeline Corporation for the work they do in our schools and beyond, especially for the way in which their supports work toward shaping the next generation," added Ms. McIntosh.
