HALTON CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
Loyola Teacher Receives Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan Award

October 5, 2018

Jeff White, hospitality teacher at St. Ignatius of Loyola, has received the Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan (OTIP) Teaching Award in the Beginning Teacher Category!

The OTIP Teaching Awards recognize and celebrate teachers who make a difference in students' lives, inspire greater learning and encourage confidence. Winners of the OTIP Teaching Awards are presented with a personal award of $1000, as well as a $1000 grant towards their school.

After 30 years in the restaurant business, Jeff decided to embark on a new path as a teacher to share his breadth of knowledge with young people.

With help from a team of local chefs and managers, Jeff provides his students with real-life working experience and the knowledge of running a restaurant. To further the real world work experience, Jeff's students also opened a restaurant within the school that serves staff and students a wide variety of delicious food.

His newest project, with the help from an Indigenous chef, is creating dishes native to Canada in the school's restaurant to integrate Indigenous Studies into the classroom.

Congratulations Jeff on the well-deserved award!
