SIR WILFRID LAURIER SCHOOL BOARD
New Appointments to the Council of Commissioners of the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board

At October 24th's regular Council of Commissioners meeting, the Council appointed, upon recommendation of the Parents' Committee, Mr. Paolo Galati, former commissioner of electoral division 9 as Chairperson, effective immediately. Mr. Galati succeeds Ms. Jennifer Maccarone, who was elected to the Québec National Assembly in the recent provincial elections.  

The Council of Commissioners also appointed Ms. Anick Brunet as Commissioner of electoral division 9, and Mr. James Di Sano as Commissioner of electoral division 8. The new Chairperson and Commissioners were sworn in during this meeting.

These three positions were filled in accordance with section 199 of the Act respecting school elections and section 3 of the Act to defer the next general school election and to allow the Government to provide for the use of a remote voting method. Candidates had the opportunity to make a 5-minute presentation to the Council of Commissioners and Parents Committee in order to formulate a recommendation to the Council of Commissioners.

The Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board is the third largest English school board of the Province of Québec. Its territory comprises the administrative regions of Laval, Lanaudière and the Laurentians. It provides preschool, elementary, secondary, adult education and vocational education services to over 14,000 students in 35 schools and 4 centres, as well as business services (Services aux entreprises) and professional development training. The school board has a workforce of nearly 2,000 employees.
