LAMBTON KENT DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
LKDSB Trustees approve John N. Given Learning Centre name

November 16, 2018

Trustees of the Lambton Kent District School Board, on the recommendation of the Ad Hoc Naming Committee, approved the name John N. Given Learning Centre for the former John N. Given Public School site at the November 13, 2018 Board Meeting.

Input on the name was gathered from the community using a survey offered online and through paper copies available at John N. Given Public School site, Tecumseh Public School, Chatham Regional Education Centre and Sarnia Education Centre.

As noted by the Ad Hoc Naming Committee, the name John N. Given Learning Centre supports the criteria outlined in the LKDSB's Regulation on Naming and Renaming of Board Facilities, as well as reflects the historical name of the facility.

As of September 2018, the former John N. Given Public School site has been repurposed for alternative programs, including the LKDSB's Adult & Continuing Education program and alternative Special Education programs. Space has also been allotted for community partnerships.

"We appreciate the efforts of the Ad Hoc Naming Committee and the community's input, which has resulted in a name that is a reflection of the site's history," said Jim Costello, Director of Education. "We look forward to its new purpose as a unique learning centre, which brings together a diversity of educators and learners, as well as community partners."
