DDSB Appoints a New Superintendent of Safe Schools & Well-Being

We would like to congratulate and welcome Georgette Davis, to the Durham District School Board (DDSB) as our new Superintendent of Education of Safe Schools and Well-Being. Davis lives in the Durham Region and she is excited to contribute our school communities. She will support the family of schools of Anderson CVI, Sinclair Secondary School, and Henry Street High School. This appointment is effective January 14, 2019.

Davis joins the DDSB team with 20 years of experience in education at Kawartha Pine Ridge School Board (KPRSB), where she's been the Superintendent of Education responsible for the Student Achievement/Special Education portfolio since 2016. She completed her Bachelor of Education at the University of Western Ontario in 1993. As a life-long learner she recently participated in the Ontario Supervisory Officer Leadership Course with the University of Toronto, Rotman School of Business and she is currently pursuing her doctoral studies on a part-time basis in educational leadership at the University of Toronto (OISE). She is also fluent in verbal and written French.

Davis is a recognized leader and she has facilitated training sessions on various topics including literacy, character education, inclusivity, and character education.

"After conducting an extensive search, on behalf of the Board of Trustees I'm thrilled that Georgette Davis is the new Superintendent of Education," said Michael Barrett, Chair of the Board. "Her expertise and dedication to student well-being and achievement will be a valuable contribution to our school communities."

"Georgette Davis is an experienced Superintendent, Principal and leader in education and we are excited to have her join the Durham District School Board's Senior Team," said Lisa Millar, Director of Education. "I'm looking forward to collaborating on projects with her in the future."

John Bowyer, who has been the Acting Superintendent for Safe Schools and Well-Being, will continue to contribute his experience and knowledge to the senior team, by supporting Superintendent Davis with specific Safe Schools projects. Arrangements can be made in advance or on-site for interviews and/or photo opportunities.

The Durham District School Board (DDSB) is responsible for public education in the rural settings of Uxbridge, Brock and Scugog Townships and the urban settings of Ajax, Whitby, Pickering and Oshawa. The DDSB employs 7,600 teaching and educational services staff. With 132 elementary and secondary schools and learning centres, the DDSB accommodates more than 70,000 regular day students and thousands more who take advantage of a wide variety of continuing education and adult credit courses.
