If you pass by École Tuxedo Park, you will notice a new flag flying high in the Charleswood sky. The distinct blue and white logo symbolizes that the school has achieved official United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) status.
École Tuxedo Park joins a network of more than 11,000 official schools across the globe who share a common vision of peace, human rights and sustainable development.
Launched in 1953, the UNESCO Associated School Network (ASPnet) is an internal network that links students, teachers and educational institutions who are committed to the goal of building peaceful and sustainable societies.
Students and staff have worked diligently on many initiatives over the past four years to receive this designation. One project included students making weekly visits to a local personal care home. There were also fundraising efforts and meaningful lessons tied to French culture.
École Tuxedo Park is the fourth Pembina Trails school to receive the special designation. Institute collégial Vincent Massey Collegiate, Linden Meadows School and Bairdmore School are also part of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network. The status means students will have the opportunity to engage in projects and exchanges within the large innovative network.
