On Tuesday November 5, 2019, staff, students, parents and alumni gathered in the gymnasium at Tecumseh Annex to celebrate its 60th anniversary. The anniversary marks the official opening of the school back on October 28, 1959.

The evening started out with a potluck dinner, with an opportunity for attendees to mingle and reconnect, as many had not seen each other for years. Alumni present had attended the school ranging from 1980 to 2010.
The celebrations continued when the Parent Advisory Committee Chair, Kurtis Findley, shared a few words about the school. "I love this school. It's just such a wonderful, welcoming and community-based school," said Findley. "I think it's absolutely amazing that we have generations upon generations in this building that went to this school. It's such a great feeling to know that the community is still here, and it has flourished," adds Findley.
"I went to Tecumseh Annex back in 2006. What I loved most about Tecumseh were the teachers," says Martin, a former student.
The entire gymnasium was decorated with balloons, flowers and old photos of Tecumseh alumni. Students were also decorating feathers as a symbol of the school's history. The event ended with a performance by current students and a giant cake was served to celebrate 60 wonderful years.
"All of the parents, the students and staff here tonight are all part of making this community as good as it is," said Chuck McNicholl, interim vice-principal of the school.
The celebrations highlighted how the school has been an important place for building community in the neighbourhood.. Congratulations on 60 years, Tecumseh Annex!
