As a part of school tradition, Renfrew Elementary School encourages each class to put together a special project once a year to present at a school assembly. Mr. Jeff Tse's Grade 5/6 class and Ms. Cheung's Grade 1/2/3 Montessouri class decided to take this opportunity to incorporate a video project around the theme of kindness.
Jeff Tse and his class first decided to brainstorm what exactly kindness means to them. Here is what some of the students came up with:
"Kindness means respecting the environment by recycling, throwing away your garbage in a trash can, and trying to use environment friendly vehicles or use less plastic." - Fiona
"Kindness is being responsible, like taking care of my sister by walking her home." - Marcus
"Kindness is what makes the world a better place! Kindness matters." - Samuel
"Kindness means respecting others and helping each other out. You can be respectful to others by giving them personal space and not judge others by how they look." - Jay
"Kindness is including others while playing with your friends. If you see someone alone, don't be afraid to ask them to play." - Kailyn
"Kindness is helping others who are in need and that need help." - Matthias
The class also came up with 6 random acts of kindness to show in video a series:
- Kindness is caring for others
- Kindness is being inclusive
- Kindness to the environment
- Kindness is respecting others
- Kindness is respecting yourself
- Kindness is being responsible
The class has been working on the video project since the beginning of October and even took a field trip to an Apple store to learn about various video editing techniques. The students showcased their kindness video project at the school's assembly on Friday, November 15.
