February 26, 2020

For the second straight year, the Tamanawis Secondary boys are provincial wrestling champions, following a dominant performance at the B.C. Secondary School Wrestling Association Championships.

Over the two-day tournament, the Tamanawis team scored 77 points - ahead of the second-place Panorama Ridge at 41 points - leading the team to its second title since last year's winning performance. The tournament was held at Feb. 16 and 17 at the Langley Events Centre, and featured more than 400 of the top high school wrestlers from across the province.

The Tamanawis boys team brought home six medals, with Sehijvir Sandhu (Grade 11, 51 kg) and Karanpreet Gill (Grade 12, 78 kg) winning gold; Rohit Bal (Grade 9, 54 kg), Bhupinder Gandham (Grade 11, 110 kg) and Shaan Randhawa (Grade 12, 120 kg) winning silver; and Baltej Mundhi (Grade 10, 84 kg winning bronze. Teammate Arjun Mandher (Grade 10, 63 kg) also had a great showing in the tournament but did not medal.

Additionally, for the Tamanawis girls, Avneet Gill (Grade 11, 47 kg) won a fifth-place medal for her impressive performance at the provincials, making her the highest placing female wrestler in Tamanawis' wrestling history.

Gill, who last year was named Most Outstanding Male wrestler, was also celebrating a three-peat performance, with his latest win marking his third straight gold medal. As well, Sandhu also celebrated a repeat, following his first place finish last year.
