FORT MCMURRAY PUBLIC SCHOOLS
FMPSD Launches E-cademy+ Online Program for 2020-2021

July 6, 2020

Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD) is proud to launch E-cademy+  - an education program in a fully online interactive environment for 2020-2021. Each student will have a teacher, who works with an FMPSD administrator, and FMPSD leaders to provide a high-quality learning experience. The + denotes parental partnership.

The purpose of this program is to offer the full Alberta curriculum in a teacher-led, interactive online learning environment that offers differentiated instruction and assessment for students who are unable to return to school as a result of COVID-19. Parents/guardians will be a critical part of this initiative and will need to apply here to express their interest in this new FMPSD program.

"This is our way of providing families with options as we prepare for this fall. We have your needs at the heart of our work. We want you to know your child's safety is an FMPSD priority, and with the E-cademy+ launch, we are putting this priority into action. We encourage families to register either at their FMPSD school of choice, or this new program for students who are not able to return to in-person classes in the fall. Getting registered with FMPSD as soon as possible will help us plan even more efficiently for this fall," noted Jennifer Turner, Superintendent, FMPSD.

E-cademy+ instruction for ECDP-Grade 6 will be hosted by Greely Road Public School. Grades 7-9 will be at École McTavish High and Westwood Community High School will be home to grades 10-12. School principals will be the host administrators for the initiative.

How will it be different?

The current home-based learning of spring 2020 is providing only the core essential learning outcomes as a result of COVID-19 province wide cancellation of classes.  E-cademy+ is a full curriculum delivery format, and as such will have the workload similar to that of a regular school day. Students will attend online learning classes and adhere to their online schedule, just as they would attend school in a traditional brick and mortar class. E-cademy+ students will have a full report card addressing their progress.

Similarities

Students will be using technology to communicate with their teachers and peers. Parental support of student learning will continue to be vital to the success of the student's learning.  E-cademy+ teachers will lead instruction, assessments, and foster a positive learning environment.
