SASKATOON PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Virtual open houses help Grade 8 students plan for high school

January 22, 2021

Saskatoon Public Schools' collegiates are virtually opening their doors to provide current Grade 8 students and their parents and guardians with a glimpse of high school life.

Collegiate open house events usually give students and parents the opportunity to visit one or several schools. This year, schools are creating videos to highlight their programs and learning opportunities to help students and families find the right fit as they look ahead to Grade 9 in September 2021.

The videos will be available on each collegiate website beginning Monday, Feb. 8, and a complete playlist on the school division's YouTube channel will give incoming Grade 9 students and their families the opportunity to learn about the unique learning experiences available at each collegiate.

Saskatoon Public Schools' collegiates offer a variety of specialized programs and learning opportunities in academics, the arts, technology, and athletics. French immersion programs are available at Centennial, Marion M. Graham, Tommy Douglas and Walter Murray collegiates. The SAGE gifted education program is offered at Bedford Road, Evan Hardy and Walter Murray. The International Baccalaureate Programme is located at Bedford Road and Aden Bowman.

Unique programs offered only to Grade 9 students are Collective Voice at Aden Bowman Collegiate, Off The Grid based at Tommy Douglas Collegiate, and the Land-Based Education program at Bedford Road Collegiate. City Park School offers the Flex Program for students in Grade 7-12 who spend a significant amount of time outside of school for high-level training in either the arts or athletics.

Nutana Collegiate, which does not offer a Grade 9 program, and Royal West Campus, which serves students age 18-21, will not host virtual open house events. Contact the respective school for more information.

Saskatoon Public Schools' collegiates have open attendance boundaries, which means students may attend the collegiate of their choice, no matter where they reside in the city.

Collegiates offer a wide variety of programs and opportunities for Grade 9 students and those in Grade 10-12. Learn more about high school programs and each collegiate by visiting the website and reading our Collegiate Handbook. Information about all of the high school programs is available in the Unique Programs Handbook.
