Bishop Tonnos Vice-Principal named Champion Coach of the Week

Andrea McCabe is a "textbook" example of a champion coach.

For 38 years, the Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary School Vice-Principal has empowered athletes from the sidelines as a volleyball and basketball coach across the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board.

Recently, her stellar contributions to coaching were recognized by Play Like a Champion for its Coach of the Week.

Play Like a Champion celebrates coaches who "demonstrate a Champion' approach to youth and high school sports, developing young athletes in virtue as well as skill. These coaches serve as models for coaches everywhere as they develop athletes not only physically, but socially, emotionally and morally."

McCabe's coaching style has led to "creating a fun, encouraging and supportive environment while empowering each athlete to become the best version of themselves."

"Coaching youth has been such a blessing," said McCabe. "My players have been such a big part of my development as a teacher-coach, but more importantly as a person."

McCabe was also a 2019 recipient of Play Like a Champion's Nan Tulchinsky Award for exemplary high school coaches.
