CMSD Announces Leadership Staffing Changes

The Board of Education for Coast Mountains School District wishes to announce the following Leadership Staffing changes for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year:

Phillip Barron is appointed to the part-time District Principal position effective August 1, 2021 in conjunction with his current position of Principal at Skeena Middle School. Phillip is highly respected and an exceptional long time educator and administrator in Terrace. The experience, insight and leadership that Phillip brings to the District Principal role will serve him well.

Effective August 1, 2021, Vince Dikaitis will return to the position of Principal at Hazelton Secondary School. Following a personal leave from April 1 to December 31, 2021, he is currently fulfilling the interim principalship role at Cassie Hall Elementary School for the remainder of this school year. Steve Wallace will return to the position of Principal at Cassie Hall Elementary School effective August 1, 2021 following his current personal leave.

We extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to Paul Boisvert and Barb Janze for their valuable contributions and significant efforts during their interim leadership as Principal and Vice Principal at Hazelton Secondary School for the 2020-2021 school year. The school district is grateful to Paul and Barb for their willingness to take on these important interim leadership roles. Effective August 1, 2021, Paul will return to the position of Vice Principal at Hazelton Secondary School. Effective September 1, 2021, Barb will return to the classroom for the 2021-2022 school year.

Effective August 1, 2021, Jan Thorburn will assume the position of Principal at New Hazelton Elementary School. She assumed the interim principalship role at New Hazelton Elementary school for the 2021-2022 school year during Alison Campbell's current medical leave. Jan's experience in both the classroom and as an administrator will benefit this role including her passion about creating new ways on how all children can become successful learners.
Currently the Vice Principal at Caledonia Secondary School, Robin MacLeod has announced her retirement at the end of this school year. We extend our sincere appreciation for her significant contribution and outstanding dedication as a teacher and leader to many learners and their families during her 43 years of service with the school district.

Effective August 1, 2021, Joe Dominguez currently Vice Principal at Skeena Middle School will return to Caledonia Secondary School to the position of Vice Principal, a position he previously held. A team player and a strong advocate for the success of all learners, Joe is a perfect fit for the Caledonia Secondary School Leadership Team.

Currently, the Principal at Thornhill Primary School, Darlene Bragg-Hounsell is appointed to the Vice Principal position at Skeena Middle School effective August 1, 2021. Darlene has effectively led the school in the areas of literacy, numeracy and assessment strategies. Her knowledge of Terrace/Thornhill students and families and her reputation as an outstanding educator and administrator will serve Skeena Middle School well. In the interim, the school district is considering the available options for the principalship position at Thornhill Primary School.
