On Wednesday, October 6, the Calgary Catholic School District's (CCSD) Board of Trustees voted to approve the recommended replacement name Our Lady of the Rockies High School for Haysboro Catholic High School, formerly Bishop Grandin High School.
Following direction provided by the Board of Trustees at the Special Board meeting of June 28, 2021, a school naming committee was formed to begin the process to recommend a replacement name for the Haysboro Catholic High School, which formerly bore the name of Bishop Grandin High School. The committee was instructed to consider input from a variety of stakeholders, including representatives of Indigenous communities.
Extensive consultations and community gatherings were held with Indigenous community representatives, as well as parish representatives, parents, guardians, students and staff. After a detailed process, five possible replacement names were selected and reviewed by the committee, before the name Our Lady of The Rockies High School was chosen. A renaming ceremony will be planned with the school community.
The Calgary Catholic School District honours the shared commitment to educating our community about Indigenous history and culture, as well as the ongoing efforts to work together towards truth and reconciliation.
