In its most recent budget, the federal government committed to spending up to $30 billion over the next 5 years to support early learning and child care (ELCC) across the country. The goals include a reduction in average child care fees, support primarily for not-for-profit regulated child care services, efforts to regulate salaries for the ECE workforce , and a growth in the number of ELCC spaces for children under 6 years old.
