YK1 is pleased to announce the appointment of Landon Kowalzik as Interim Assistant Superintendent, effective November 15, 2021. The position will be based out of YK1's District Office until June 30, 2022. It is in response to a temporary vacancy in Human Resources. In his new role, Mr. Kowalzik will be responsible for personnel functions as assigned by the Superintendent/ CEO.

Mr. Kowalzik has been the principal of N.J. Macpherson School since August 2019. Before being a school administrator, he taught a wide range of courses at École Sir John Franklin High School, including Social Studies, Math, Northern Studies, World Religions, Psychology, AP Microeconomics and AP European History.
Mr. Kowalzik graduated from the University of Lethbridge in 2003 with a B.A. in Economics and then in 2006 with a B.Ed in Social Studies and a minor in Math. He later obtained his Masters of Education in Curriculum and Assessment in June 2020. Outside of work, Mr. Kowalzik enjoys watching and playing hockey, running, golfing, reading and travelling with his wife.
District Office staff look forward to working with Mr. Kowalzik in his new role, where he will be responsible for the administration of employment practices, labour relations, and all aspects of human resources management. The current assistant principal of N.J. Macpherson School - Randy Caines - will act as interim principal of the school for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year.
