The Town of Aurora is partnering with the York Region District School Board (YRDSB) to construct a multi-sport artificial turf field at the site of Dr. G.W. Williams Secondary School opening in September 2025. The new school will be located at the northeast corner of Bayview Avenue and Borealis Avenue. A regulation artificial field, which includes supporting washrooms with exterior access, will be included in the new build. The school will have exclusive use during school hours and community sport organizations will be able to permit the fields through the Town during evenings, weekends and other non-school days.
"I am pleased to announce this new partnership with YRDSB to bring our community another artificial turf field. This new field will allow for more opportunities for community groups and athletes to enjoy games and seasonal play in the Town," said Aurora Mayor Tom Mrakas. "This is great news for our sporting community and will encourage active and healthy living in Aurora."
"We are looking forward to the new opportunities and engagement this partnership with the Town of Aurora will offer our students, staff and community," said Bob McRoberts, YRDSB Trustee - Aurora and King. "Well-being is a key priority for our Board and I feel confident that this field will greatly benefit the school and community greatly."
