THAMES VALLEY DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
Thames Valley District School Board welcomes federal-provincial $13.2 billion child care deal

April 21, 2022

Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) welcomes the provincial and federal government's recent announcement of a $13.2 billion childcare agreement providing on average $10 a day child care and 86,000 new high-quality licensed child care spaces by 2026.

TVDSB currently houses quality child care centres run by licensed providers in 15 of our schools, with 6 more planned in the next 5 years.

"We're encouraged that this agreement will make child care more affordable and equitable for families who need it," said Geoff Vogt, Superintendent of Facility Services and Capital Planning.  "Accessible child care can allow parents to work or attend school more freely when they may not have been able to previously. This can have a positive and lasting impact on our families."

Attending child care centres in TVDSB schools gives many children the opportunity to learn and grow in a familiar space all the way from infancy to graduation. Licensed child care also supports early learning before children enter kindergarten.
