In celebration of Catholic Education Week, the students and staff gathered for the official opening and blessing of St. Anne Catholic School on Thursday, May 5, 2022. The blessing was officiated by Bishop Nguyen, Father Keith, and Deacon Dominic. Principal MacNeil thanked the St. Anne Catholic School choir and Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School band and choir for sharing their voices and providing the wonderful music for the Mass.
"We are thrilled to celebrate today's milestone," said Principal MacNeil. "St. Anne Catholic School is a vibrant and growing school community. We opened our doors in September 2020 to 424 students and now have over 600 students attending in-person and another 43 virtually." St. Anne Catholic School is one of the newest schools within the Durham Catholic District School Board and the school's athletic name "Spurs" is a tribute to the land the school is built on Windfield Farms.
A highlight from the opening included students from each class contributing to the school's time capsule that was blessed by Bishop Nguyen. The time capsule will be securely stored and opened at the school's 25th anniversary in 2045.
