LOUIS RIEL SCHOOL DIVISION
LRSD Announces the Retirement of Vice-Principal at Island Lakes Community School

June 9, 2022
In May, Tannis Esquivel, Vice-Principal at Island Lakes Community School, provided notice of her retirement, effective June 30, 2022.

Tannis began her teaching career in Tiger Hills School Division in 1987 where she taught in early years for two years. She then joined the St. Boniface School Division in a classroom assignment in 1989. Throughout her classroom assignments, Tannis was also the grade-level Basic French specialist. Tannis went on to support the Frontenac School community as a student services teacher and designate teacher until 2009. Tannis was then appointed to the position of Instructional Support Coordinator in the Louis Riel School Division (LRSD). During this time, Tannis provided leadership and support for early years programming in the division and served as the Chair of the St. Boniface Parent Child Coalition, successfully collaborating with community and public agencies within LRSD's catchment. Tannis was appointed to the position of vice-principal of Lavallee School in 2012, and later vice-principal of Island Lakes Community School in 2017.

Tannis made exceptional contributions in each role she took on. She shared that while she never imagined spending her career anywhere other than teaching in a classroom, she is incredibly grateful that she had the opportunity to experience these various roles. It is apparent that Tannis has positively impacted many students, teachers, and families.

Tannis' greatest love has always been to be working with students. Whether she is helping a group of students read, sharing lunch with a student who needs a friend or engaging a group in planting flowers, her love for her students is always shining brightly. In every school she has worked in, Tannis has become a trusted friend to both her colleagues and students. One of her favorite sayings is, "Sprinkle kindness around like confetti," and she did just that throughout her entire career.

In retirement, Tannis is looking forward to spending more time with her family, longer summers at the lake and being open to whatever adventures come her way.

Tannis, on behalf of the Louis Riel School Board and the Senior Leadership Team, I would like to thank you for your countless contributions. We wish you the absolute best as you journey into retirement.
