CALGARY CATHOLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT
CCSD Board of Trustees Approves 2021-2022 Audited Financial Statements

November 28, 2022

At last week's public board meeting, the Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD) Board of Trustees approved the 2021-2022 audited financial statements, reflecting a surplus of $2.1 million, representing approximately 0.3 per cent of expenditures.

The district's year-end financial results are better than the budgeted $10.4 million deficit, primarily due to continued operational cost savings resulting from lower student enrolment; the presence of COVID-19 driven activity restrictions for part of the fiscal year; and the recognition of net unbudgeted revenues related to COVID-19 mitigation funding.

"We are pleased with the district's continued commitment to responsibly manage its resources during an ever-evolving public health landscape," said Board Chair Cathie Williams. "On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to thank our Chief Superintendent Dr. Bryan Szumlas and our senior administrators for their leadership and recommendations to maximize every dollar's value to support our students' wellness and successes."

Total CCSD revenues were $612.5 million, lower by $3.2 million (0.5 per cent) over 2020-2021, primarily due to the absence of COVID-19 related federal grants that were included in the previous year. Total district expenditures were $610.4 million, reflecting an increase of $1.2 million (0.2 per cent) from the previous year, primarily due to more typical pre-pandemic level operating spending patterns re-emerging in the latter part of the year.
