OCAD U's new digital maker facility, the Experimental Fabrication Studio at 205 Richmond St. W.
OCAD U's new digital maker facility, the Experimental Fabrication Studio, is set to enhance student learning experiences by equipping students with the digital and tech skills they will need to thrive on-the-job, in an ever-evolving digital world.
Now open at 205 Richmond St. W., the new 4500 sq.ft. studio houses the latest in digital media and advanced manufacturing equipment including robotic arms, laser cutters and 3D printers.
While OCAD U already offers a robust system of research labs and fabrication studios, the new manufacturing equipment is transformative, providing students with opportunities to work directly with advanced prototyping and manufacturing systems, specifically embedded electronics and collaborative robotic manufacturing.
Designing with aesthetic principles in a real-world context will propel students to provide world-class expertise and hands-on support for industrial design, UX design, information design, data design, design-driven prototyping and manufacturing, and other evolving digital design needs.
Access to the new equipment will also allow OCAD U to grow high-demand programs, as well as new technology-based micro-credentials programs.
