ATHABASCA UNIVERSITY
Pure portal shines light on research at Athabasca University

June 6, 2023

A new online portal will make it easier to discover research by Athabasca University (AU) faculty, help break down research silos, and foster new collaborations that expand knowledge and discovery.

The Pure research information management system launched this spring, and will play an important role in shining a spotlight on research at AU and the impact of the university's work in addressing the world's greatest challenges.

"The Pure portal is an important tool in helping tell Athabasca University's story and why our research matters," said Dr. Andrew Perrin, associate vice-president of research.

"Making research and data easier to find and navigate can foster creative collaborations across disciplines between researchers at AU, but also among colleagues at institutions throughout Canada and the world."

Athabasca University research profiles, publications

Pure launched this spring after a competitive request-for-proposals process and evaluation that included input from faculty and staff across the university.

The portal includes profiles of all AU researchers, including recent publications and areas of interest, academic appointments and qualifications, and even media coverage. Data in the portal can be sorted in different ways, including by all research at AU or by research units.

Find graduate supervisors at Athabasca University

Perrin said Pure will become an important tool for students, too. Undergraduate and graduate students both current and prospective can use the portal to identify research areas of interest and potential graduate supervisors.

"Athabasca University is proud of our role as the only fully open and online research university in Canada, and 1 of 4 comprehensive research universities in Alberta," he said. "We're digital by design and that includes research both in how we work, but also how we connect and share that knowledge with the world."
