The Université de Sherbrooke, with the support of the Ministère de l'Enseignement Supérieur, is pleased to relaunch the Anglophone pathway of its Bachelor of Vocational Education (BVE) program as of the Winter semester 2024. This unique pathway, is exclusive to the Université de Sherbrooke, one of a kind in all of Quebec.
Starting next January, teachers in the Anglophone vocational education sector will be able to begin their university education in teaching or to continue where they left off. Admissions to this pathway had been suspended in the fall of 2019.
The funding received will allow the hiring of two professors and administrative staff explicitly dedicated to the Anglophone pathway. Thus, Anglophone vocational teachers will benefit from a program adapted to their needs, interests, and characteristics.
"In today's society, it's vital to support people who choose to teach in vocational education so that they can pass on their practical knowledge to their students. Every year, it's a source of great pride for me to hand out diplomas to the graduates of this program! They show great determination and perseverance."
Anne Lessard, Dean of the Faculty of Education
Bachelor of Vocational Education - Anglophone pathway
This pathway is aimed at an Anglophone adult clientele, made up of tradespeople who, after working for several years, are called upon to teach their know-how in vocational schools. It enables them to obtain authorization from the Ministry responsible for teaching in a vocational education center (VE). The BVE is aimed at persons who already teach a trade or aspire to teach the trade they practice.
Very often recruited and hired in a hurry because of their expertise, they often begin their university education only once in a position to comply with the provisions of the Ministry relating to the rules and regulation structuring authorizations to teach. The aim is to obtain a legal teaching qualification.
Progress at your own pace
Coming from over 150 trades in 21 training sectors, BVE students work full-time while studying at university. The program is offered part-time in various modalities designed to meet the needs of students with diverse profiles. The program is adapted to the workplace realities, allowing teachers to progress at their own pace.
This program is ideal for those who excel in their trade and wish to teach the next generation. It is characterized by alternating courses at the university with teaching internships in one's school or a center of one's choice.
Developing your pedagogical competencies
The BVE enables teachers to rapidly develop the pedagogical competencies they need to practice their new profession. It also allows networking and sharing best practices with other vocational teachers.
Interested candidates will be able to apply this autumn for entry to the winter term. For further information and to register your interest in this program: beps.education@usherbrooke.ca.
