BROCK UNIVERSITY
Brock expands global relationships with new Canada-Caribbean partnership

April 26, 2024

Brock University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University College of The Cayman Islands on Monday, April 22 during a virtual ceremony attended by senior leaders from both institutions and representatives from the Trade Commissioner Service and the High Commission of Canada in Jamaica.

Brock University recently strengthened its connections in the Caribbean by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI).

Representatives from the Trade Commissioner Service and the High Commission of Canada in Jamaica joined senior leaders from both institutions for a virtual signing ceremony on Monday, April 22.

UCCI expressed an interest in partnering with Brock in 2023. The MOU symbolizes an agreement from both partners to explore collaboration for mutual growth and development.

The MOU is set to have a significant impact on education at both institutions, nurturing global citizenship among students and faculty while enriching academic experiences and building a broader understanding of diverse perspectives, languages and cultures.

While benefiting Caribbean students is a primary focus, the MOU serves to connect scholars from across Canada and the Caribbean. More Caribbean students will gain access to world-class education and research opportunities, while Canadian scholars will find new avenues for exploration and collaboration in the Caribbean.

A history of bilateral relations and shared values between Canada and the Caribbean, along with Brock University's commitment to regional scholarly relations through the Canada-Caribbean Institute, has set a solid foundation for new partnerships.

The impact of such partnerships is evident in the number of Caribbean students on Brock's campus. In the 2023-24 academic year, 37 students from Caribbean countries, including seven from the Cayman Islands, chose Brock as their academic destination.

International partnerships are facilitated through Brock International. For more information, please visit the Brock International website.
