Brock faculty, staff and students gather with members of the Mack Schools of Nursing Alumni Association to commemorate the donation of $25,000 to the University's Nursing Department.
Brock University will be better able to advance nursing education and foster the next generation of nursing professionals thanks to a recent $25,000 donation from the Mack Schools of Nursing Alumni Association.
A shared commitment to excellence in nursing education inspired the Association's donation to Brock.
"Brock's esteemed Nursing program aligns seamlessly with our mission to advance nursing education and address the growing demand for health-care professionals. We are confident that this investment will enrich the educational experience of nursing students and uphold the program's rigorous standards," said Betty Ann Chandler, President of the Mack Schools of Nursing Alumni Association.
First established as the St. Catharines Training School and Nurses' Home at the St. Catharines General and Marine Hospital in 1874, the school operated under the Nightingale system and was later renamed the Mack Training School for Nurses in honour of its founder, Dr. Theophilius Mack.
While the school closed in 1974 after nursing programs transitioned to post-secondary education institutions, its legacy lived on through the Mack Centre of Nursing Education at Niagara College and will continue to impact Brock Nursing students through this donation.
"The support from the Mack Schools of Nursing Alumni Association is truly invaluable. This generous donation will empower our students with enhanced opportunities and resources, enabling them to thrive in their academic pursuits and make meaningful contributions to health care," said Karyn Taplay, Associate Professor and Chair in Brock's Department of Nursing.
Members of the Association visited Brock on Thursday, April 25 to celebrate their history and witness the impact of the Mack Schools of Nursing Scholarship.
"Today provided an opportunity to symbolically pass the torch from past to present nursing education," Taplay said at the event.
In addition to touring Brock's state-of-the-art Clinical Simulation Lab, the Mack alumni engaged with current students, shared experiences, offered life advice and connected with those just starting out in their nursing careers.
"By joining hands in support, family and friends of the Association's members can continue contributing to the fund on special occasions to ensure the continuity of excellence in nursing education for generations to come," said Amelia Canto, Executive Director of Development and Donor Relations.
