ASSINIBOINE COLLEGE / BRANDON UNIVERSITY
Assiniboine partners with BU on articulation agreement for web and design graduates

July 4, 2024

In a shared commitment to advancing learning opportunities, Brandon University and Assiniboine College's Peters School of Business have signed a new articulation agreement, which will renew and update existing pathways for students pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (Brandon University), or a Digital Art and Design or Web and Interactive Development diploma (Assiniboine).

"At Assiniboine, we believe in access to education and training," said Terry Burgess, Dean, Peters School of Business at Assiniboine. "We are thrilled to be able to offer our Digital Art and Design, and Web and Interactive Development students with the opportunity to leverage the industry-relevant skills they've gained at the college to get their degree right here in Brandon."

Under the agreement, students who have completed or will complete their Digital Art and Design or Web and Interactive Development diploma at Assiniboine will receive transfer credits from Brandon University toward their Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

"It's wonderful to have two public education institutions in Brandon collaborating to offer students the opportunity to advance their education and become skilled graduates who can respond to Manitoba's economic needs," said Minister of Advanced Education and Training, Renée Cable.

The agreement marries traditional and contemporary studio art practices from a variety of perspectives with digital technology practices and prepares students for the business aspects of this career path as they pursue their professional practice as an artist. When students complete one of the designated diploma programs at Assiniboine, they can earn their degree at Brandon University in two years instead of four.

"We're delighted to expand our longstanding partnership with Assiniboine, and this agreement builds on that established history of working together to create opportunities that benefit students and our entire community," said Brandon University Dean of Arts, Dr. Gregory Kennedy. "This agreement highlights the educational strengths of both institutions that, when combined, provide unique training to prepare students to contribute to artistic creation and digital design in business, public service, education, and other sectors."

"Students who follow this path will have the opportunity to pursue a Master's degree, which opens the door to different career opportunities," said Jana Sproule, Chair, Media & Office Technology at the Peters School of Business. "We look forward to seeing where this partnership takes our graduates."
