SSHRC's Insight Development Grants support the development of short-term research projects of up to two years by emerging and established scholars. The 22 York-led projects awarded this year were among 590 projects at universities across Canada to receive a total combined funding of over $36 million.
Among the York-led projects are a study on the impact of Black faculty cluster hires at Canadian universities, research focused on the language, history and culture of the Lenape - an Indigenous people in northeastern United States and Canada - and an investigation into romantic chemistry and its effect on relationship development.
"York University is a global leader in social sciences and humanities research, and SSHRC's investment in these 22 projects reinforces the outstanding expertise of our faculty in these fields," said Amir Asif, vice-president research and innovation. "This funding supports early-stage research, which York researchers are especially adept at doing, pursuing new knowledge and experimenting with innovative methods. Longer-term, this enables them to expand their work to address complex planetary challenges and create positive change."
