Mount Royal University's Trico Changemaker Studio buzzed with excitement on Sept. 17 as the campus hosted the ScaleUP Week 2024 sponsor recognition event. Organized by the Mount Royal University Foundation on behalf of Growth Compass, the event celebrated the valuable contributions of sponsors while marking the launch of the inaugural ScaleUP Week impact report.
Growth Compass, a centre of excellence within Mount Royal University's Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, launched ScaleUP Week to bring together industry leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs and policymakers to explore the challenges and opportunities of scaling businesses. The weeklong initiative attracted over 800 registrants and 65 expert speakers and generated $50,443 in surplus and donations, which will be reinvested in further research and community programming on scaling businesses.
Attendees were welcomed with a land acknowledgment and remarks from Melanie Rogers, vice-president of University Advancement, followed by speeches from Dr. Kelly Williams-Whitt, dean of the Faculty of Business, and Dr. Simon Raby, associate director of the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Both underscored the event's pivotal role in connecting the entrepreneurial community, building a robust ecosystem, and driving impactful outcomes for students, businesses and the broader community.
The event also acknowledged the generosity of sponsors, in particular McLeod Law LLP and Motiv Digital, whose partnership as lead sponsors was crucial in delivering the success of ScaleUP Week. Looking ahead to 2025, the excitement surrounding ScaleUP Week is building, with plans to expand its reach and deepen sponsor engagement, ensuring its lasting impact on western Canada's entrepreneurial landscape.
